Doing tours for outsiders to Copenhagen started out as my private interest and a hobby, but has since 2014 grown to be an important part of Work & Life Denmark, especially during the touristic high season from May through August.

Unless otherwise agreed upon, all tours from Work & Life Denmark are done by Jens Frahm-Rasmussen. Here follows a little guide profile.

I grew up in the suburbs of Copenhagen, and have lived in the Vesterbro district of the city for many years – the later years spending summer time in my allotment garden/summer house by the Amager Beach Park. I have a big interest in both Danish history and modern society and life, and when I don’t do guided tours, I teach Danish culture and Danish business culture to high-skilled foreigners coming to Copenhagen to work through my own company that deals with both work and life aspects in Denmark.

Most of my tours are on foot, simply because it’s the best way to explore inner Copenhagen and the surrounding districts – it’s a compact city, and cars don’t have a high priority, so walking (or biking) is the best way to get around the central parts of the city. (If you prefer biking instead of walking, that is also possible).

I would like to give you a tour where you both see the Copenhagen highlights but also satisfy your curiosity of the modern life in Denmark, whatever your interests might be (take a look at my “Culture tour” for ideas).

During the longer tour, I like to include places where you can try a traditional Danish lunch, the “smørrebrød” (open faced sandwiches) – probably the most important addition from the Danish kitchen, and a thing I something do workshops in myself and like to present to guests. In addition, you will also get my printed guide to the best cafés, bars and restaurants on Vesterbro (which I developed myself after doing quite a lot of tours in Vesterbro and surroundings!), made for you to discover the district on your own after a tour.

Apart from living in Copenhagen, I have spent 4-5 years living abroad (the United States, Argentina and Germany for the longest periods) and I am also able to guide in Spanish and German if you are willing to deal with a few grammatical errors along the way. I really enjoy meeting other nationalities, and hope to see you on one of my tours.

Jens was a fantastic guide to Copenhagen. He was very attentive to what our family of four was most interested in, was extremely knowledgable, flexible, and fun to talk to. We especially appreciated the wide range of topics on our tour, from Danish history to the best assortment of pastries to sample during a walking break. We’ve done local tours in several cities and Jens has been our favorite guide.

First time with toursbylocals and certainly not the last since we are beginning our journey. We hope to meet other individuals with as much class and knowledge as Jens. It was like spending time with an old friend you haven’t seen for a while. We will remember that experience for a long time.

Jens was awesome! We were interested in the history and culture of the city/country, and Jens was perfect – First he is well educated on the history; and second he’s young enough to be engaged and part of the culture but has enough life experience (lived in the US and Argentina) to put the Danish culture into context. He was very generous with his time; patient; fun; organized and engaging. And he gave us good tips for how to spend the rest of our time in Copenhagen. We’d use him again for sure!

We hired Jens to give us a quick tour of the Viking Museum, Viking ship yard and Cathedral in Roskilde. We only had a limited amount of time and he was able to not only accommodate our schedule but he was able to maximize our time while we were there and give us the most bang for our buck! He was very knowledgeable, organized and professional. We could have not made a better choice than to hire Jens for our day in Copenhagen / Roskilde. You will not regret your time with Jens!” Blake C.

Jens was an exceptional tour guide for our History tour of Northern Zealand. He was extremely friendly and cooperative and ensured that our group’s needs were met. He was very informative and provided good explanations along our route and at the venues. We highly recommend him as a guide and would not hesitate to use him again.
